Farm Implement News 1888 Buyer's Guide on CD-ROM, History of Agriculture, Vol 2

The annual "Buyer's Guides" published by Farm Implement News were a wealth of information for farmers and dealers looking for distributers as well as manufacturers. Now the few examples that survive of these early volumes are an invaluable resource to the collector and researcher of farm tools and machines. This 1888 edition is the very first issue published. An index by classification includes, in addition to all the usual types of horse drawn implements and tools, such things as animal pokes, broom corn presses, churn powers, cow ties, dog powers, fence machines, foot lathes, forges, grain registers, sickle grinders, and more - over 400 categories. A second index by advertisers list over 120 makers and sellers. The contents are arranged by category and each company listed under a category includes the city and state as well as the brand names. These names stenciled on a machine are often the only clue to the maker. Many illustrated display ads are included for such things as Poulson's mower and reaper knife sharpener, the Howell grain register, and the Perkins windmill.
