The Family Corn Sheller
The early version of Brady's Family Sheller, with only the 1867 patent date. Other Brady's we have seen have had both the 1867 and the March 31, 1868 patent dates. The only markings on the sheller are" Family Corn Sheller, Pat'd Sept 10, 1867". Actually, the patent was granted the following week, on Sept 17, 1867, to Christian Brady, of Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Two handles were provided on the Brady for left or right hand operation. One of the crank handles is broken off this sheller (and not present). This sheller is No. 115 in the Field Guide to Hand Shellers.
