J. Hemmi's 20 inch slide rule with digit registering cursor
Laminated bamboo construction, according to Jiro Hemmi’s U.S. patent of Feb 3, 1920, with celluloid faced scales. Scale length is 19 3/4 inches. Front scales are A B C D. The reverse of the slide has scales S, L, T, which are read through an oval cutout on either end of the stock. Both edges have a 50 cm rule. Printed tables and conversions are on the reverse. There is no model number. The stock is marked “J. Hemmi, SUN, patent 22129, British patent 107562, Brevete S.G.D.G., made in Japan”. The cursor frame is marked “J.Hemmi, SUN, patent No.
51788”. The celluloid oval openings on the
back are discolored and cracked. The front is fine, but the slide feels a little loose. The green cloth covered hard case is in good condition and has an interesting paper label on the back and gold stamped logo on the front. The original paper box with slipcase is in fair shape and has mostly Japanese printing.
