The early form of the Loring instrument with fixed mirror and a single wheel of eight lenses. The set includes a large biconvex lens and leather covered wood fitted case, lined with velvet, the lid lined with satin. The trade label inside the box lid reads “F. Arnold & Son, Manufacturers of Surgical Instruments, 15 S. Sharp St., Baltimore”. The box lid is gold embossed “Loring Ophthalmoscope”. The instrument and case are in very good condition, noting fading of the box lining and wear on the leather covering on the ends of the box.
