Tel-O-Flash Adding Machine

This appears to be an early 20th c. knockoff of the Stephenson adder. Unlike the latter, it is made of aluminum and is marked "Tel-O-Flash Adder, reg U.S. Patent Office, General Machine Company, Phila, PA". The patent reference must be to Stephenson's 1873 patent, which would have long since expired. Or, they may be referring to a trademark. Both a 2 fold brochure and an instruction sheet are included. Both sheets have the Philadelphia address of General Machine Co. scratched out and stamped with a Camden NJ address. Also scratched out is the 5 year money back guarantee. The adder has an advance mechanism, with the left wheel registering up to 19 and the right to 9. Thus 199 is the maximum sum which can be registered. Good working order, with cloth case, brochure and instruction sheet.
