Bausch & Lomb Trichinae Model Microscope
The large ribbed 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" stage of this model and the low power 1 1/2" objective were suited to examining large sections of pork muscle for trichinella cysts. Known as the Trichinae Model, Bausch & Lomb made this stand for the U.S. Bureau of Animal Industry. The serial number is 351. The claw foot base and twin pillars are cast in one piece. The micrometer screw fine adjustment is on the limb. Markings are "Pat Oct 3, 1876, Pat Oct 13, 1885" and "Bureau of Animal Industry, 351". A brass rotating stage has been attached to the top of the Trichinae stage for viewing standard size slides. This is held in place with 4 screws and is removable. There is a substage condensing lens mounted on a slide and an aperture wheel of 4 stops. The objective is marked "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co., series 11, 1 1/2 In., tube length 8.5 inch". The eyepiece is marked "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co., Rochester, NY". Good operatiing condition.
