American Agriculturist Compound Microscope
Introduced by Bausch & Lomb in 1879, This small microscope was offered as a subscription premium by the American Agriculturist. The black japanned iron stand has a claw foot and double trunnion supporting a B&L vulcanite stage fitted with an aperture wheel. The nickel plated tube is marked "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co., Rochester, NY". There is both a draw tube and rack and pinion focusing. The single sided mirror is mounted on a swinging arm. There is a single eyepiece and a two button objective. Boldly cast on the upper surface of the foot is "American Agriculturist Compound Microscope". Fine condition, lacking one stage clip and the box.
