Foot Powered Mortising Machine

This machine is made almost entirely of iron, with only a large hardwood return spring and table. The mortiser is 54" high, with a 40" x 3" table. Vertical adjustment of the table is 9". The iron fence is 12 inches long with 1 1/4" in and out adjustment. Two slotted hold downs with 4" adjustment are mounted on the fence. The chisel reverser lever lifts up to release and pivots 180 degrees, securely locking the chisel in either the left or right position. The one original 1/4" chisel is in good condition. There are no markings on the machine, however, an almost identical mortiser is illustrated in the 1867 A.J. Wilkinson catalog. The machine is in good working condition, with no breaks or welds. Several nuts are old replacements.
