Spring Lancet

chamois lined case

decorated reverse side

A small (human size)spring lancet marked "F.D.". The chamois lined, leather covered case is faintly marked "Traunichtessticht", which translates "Do not trust - it stabs". The zig-zag decoration runs around the periphery of both sides of the brass case. 1 1/2" long brass case with brass release lever. F.D. is one of the more common markings on early spring lancets found in the U.S., however, the maker is unknown to me. The mechanism is in working condition. A strong spring makes cocking somewhat more difficult than usual. The leather has worn off one end of the dome lidded wood case.
