Early Wood Framed Scroll Saw

This flat belt driven scroll saw is constructed of wood, with a tight and loose pulley and belt shifter. The belt shifter is designed for use with the belt passing through the floor. It could be belted from behind, but the original belt shifter wouldn't work with the belt in that position. The upper blade holder is not present and would have been suspended from the ceiling. Also, the top bearing halves for the main shaft are not present. The mechanism works smoothly, without binding. Restoration would require making the two bearing caps and designing an upper blade holder with spring tension, suspended from the ceiling. Or, as is, it makes an unusual shop table. The table is 33" x 37" and is 35" high. The tight and loose wooden drive pulleys are 5" in diameter and 3 3/4" wide.

the blade holder The previous owner thought the blade was mounted only from below, but the slot and small hole for a pin would require upper blade tension. This was likely a scroll saw with ceiling mounted upper holder.
