P.J. Sorg Tobacco Cutter

This interesting design allows easy blade removal by simply raising the lever to disengage its segmental gear from the rack. Also, the inclined rack causes the blade to move forward as it is lowered, thus shearing the product with much less effort than if it were pressing straight down.
Cast on the sides of the lever are "SAW DOG" and "SPEAR HEAD", two of P.J. Sorg's tobacco products. The base is marked "P.J. Sorg & Co. Pat Dec 11, 1883". The patent was granted to Thomas Casad, of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
